Slowly but surely ladies, who are keen on fitness, walk into the City High School playground. By 5:20pm, the ground is teeming with not only women, but also men and children of different sizes and colours, all clad in sportswear for the second fitness bazaar.
The bazaar that commenced with warm-up drills later gained momentum when the instructors shifted to aerobics. From the enthusiasm with which the ladies jumped keeping pace with the instructor revealed how much they enjoyed what they were doing. “I love aerobics and I can go for five hours nonstop. I have even won two trophies in aerobics,†said Audrey Lang a participant.
After cooling off, the ladies were taken into yet another session, which caused more excitement; the Zumba, salsa and hip hop. It was amazing to see women endeavor to balance under instructions by Moses Golola.
“It is a good boost to start an exercise programme, the beauty of the bazaar is that it has been a blend of different aspects, aerobics, Zumba, body balance and stretching. This way each of us has enjoyed her favorite drill†said Rosette Komuhangi working with GIZ Uganda. Jackline Asiimwe working with Uganda Securities Exchange, who has jumped onto the fitness wagon said the bazaar was amazing. “It has revived her new year’s resolution of keeping fit. “By the end of the year I think I will be on track,†affirmed Asiimwe. Lang, who has made exercising part of her life, said exercising makes one feel and sleep better as well as look good. Apart from health benefits, Lang says the bazaar is one way to network and meet lost friends.
Claude Damali working with Jubilee Insurance, who was attending the bazaar for the first time, said the bazaar was complementing her personal fitness programme. “Though I work out every evening I want to be part of the fitness bazaar because it is thrilling to be out here in the open, especially after accumulated days stress as opposed to the enclosed gym sessions,†confessed Damali.
“I have been working out every evening, but not this intensely. Nevertheless it is fun and I hope to see results,†said Hellena Mayanja another participant.
Tina Byaruhanga, the brain behind the Fitness Bazaar, said it is intended to give something exciting to the woman, but at the same time intense and health benefiting.
