A 70-year-old woman dragged her son to the Police for neglecting his children. Nantumbwe carried her six grandchildren to the Police station in Entebbe, saying Lutwama had refused to buy food and clothes for them.

Nantumbwe, a resident of Busia district, said Lutwama left her with his two sons and four daughters six months ago, but did not go back to visit them.

“The children lack food; they do not have school fees. Whenever I call him, he says he is coming,” Nantumbwe explained. “My son goes on having children from different women and drops them at my home.”

The officer-in-charge of family affairs at Entebbe Police Station said they would not allow Lutwama to take the children away from his mother, but would force him to commit himself to providing for their upkeep.

Ironically, Lutwama is the chairman of a committee that advocates for children’s rights in Kiturumu village.

He said he was unable to provide for the children because he was facing some problems. He was later released after promising to provide for the children.
