KAMPALA - Two suspects were on Friday arrested by the Jinja Road Police with forged COVID-19 car stickers.

The Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Patrick Onyango confirmed that police officers manning a checkpoint intercepted a driver identified as Julius with a forged sticker and on interrogation, he revealed who sold him the sticker.

"Julius led the team of detectives from Jinja Road Police Station to Namungoona Zone 1 at Luyinja area where Dickson Mugarura was arrested at his home. After a search of Mugarura's premises, police recovered 29 forged COVID-19 car stickers," Onyango said.

He said the suspects would be charged with forgery and that they are currently detained at Jinja Road Police Station and they will be produced in court on Monday.

"We appeal to members of the public not be deceived into buying forged stickers because our officers are on the lookout for culprits," Onyango said.

The arrest of the two suspects follows President Yoweri Museveni's restrictions on the use of private vehicles on March 30, 2020, to curb the further spread of the COVID-19 in the country.

The President's directed states that only essential staff would be allowed to use their private cars.

He listed the categories of the essential workers and the Ministry of works proceeded to make stickers.

However, some unscrupulous individuals have taken advantage of this and either accessed stickers illegally or printed fake ones.

Several other suspects have since been arrested and arraigned before courts of law.
