Museveni hails People Power for contribution to COVID-19 fight

People Power contributed an assortment of items which included bags of maize flour, boxes of soap and salt.

 
President Yoweri Museveni has welcomed the contribution of opposition People Power pressure group to the fight against COVID-19 in the country.
 
While updating the nation on the status of COVID-19 in the country on Wednesday night, Museveni read out a list of insitutions who had had contributed different items and cash to the Government.
 
Among the groupings read out was People Power which is led by Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine.
 
"Thank you so much," President Museveni said amid smiles.
 
"Now you see! You are joining the people now," he added.
 
People Power contributed an assortment of items which included bags of maize flour, boxes of soap and salt.
 
The items were received by health minister Dr Jane Ruth Aceng.
 
President Museveni re-echoed his earlier message that any politician or individual who would be found distributing relief items directly to the masses will be charged with attempted murder.
 
"Such a person will be an enemy of the people," Museveni said before directing the Police to arrest the implicated individuals for flouting health emergency regulations.
 
The President called upon the public to make more donations to make the work of the Government easier in trying to slow the spread of COVID-19.
 
Specifically, the President called on companies and individuals to donate 4X4 brand new pick-up trucks for use by the health ministry. About 1400 such vehicles are needed by the ministry, according to the President.
