Masembe missed out in the first phase of the qualifiers when he lost in the box-off match in the Africa Olympic Games qualifiers in Dakar, Senegal in February.

Boxer Isaac Masembe has requested for more support in his effort to qualify for the Tokyo 2021 Olympic games.

Masembe missed out in the first phase of the qualifiers when he lost in the box-off match in the Africa Olympic Games qualifiers in Dakar, Senegal in February.

However, Masembe with other local boxers such as David Ssemujju that didn't live up to the task in Senegal has a chance to take part in other Olympic qualifiers that had been scheduled for May in France but were called off due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Although the new dates of the qualifiers have not been set by the International Boxing Association (AIBA), however, Masembe started his training with his coach Lawrence Kalyongo.

"My target is to qualify for the Olympics that is why I started early preparations. In Senegal, I was unlucky not to qualify for the Olympics since I lost in box-off. So now, I'm trying my best to rectify the mistakes I did in Senegal. However, I request support from everyone to see that I reach my goal", stated Masembe.

Despite being in a lockdown, coach Kalyongo revealed that he is ready to see that Masembe reaches the Olympics.

"I have many boxers that I train, but because of this outbreak, I sent them home and only stayed with Masembe. Despite missing out in Senegal, Masembe has a lot of hope that he will make in the Olympics. This is shown in the training sessions we do. He is committed and always works hard to achieve this goal," noted Kalyongo.

If Masembe qualifies for Olympics, he will join captain Shadir Musa who was the first to qualify in Senegal.
