Mbadi said the equipment will go a long way in the co-ordination of efforts to fight the Corona virus pandemic across the country.

The Deputy Chief of Defence Forces, Lt Gen Wilson Mbadi, has commended Samanga Solutions for contributing VHF radio units worth sh500m to be used in the fight against COVID-19.

A press statement released on Saturday said the equipment was received by Permanent Secretary at the Office of the Prime Minister, Christine Guwatudde Kintu.

Mbadi said the equipment will go a long way in the co-ordination of efforts to fight the Corona virus pandemic across the country.

He also noted that communication between teams on ground is a critical function which will be eased by the VHF Radios.

George Nkya, the Samanga Solutions managing director, said the donation was important especially at a time when the health co-ordinating team is involved in contact tracing to limit the spread of the disease.

"In her address on Tuesday, the honorable Minister of Health mentioned that they are in the process of tracing over 610 possible contacts to the confirmed Covid-19 cases across the country.

Our contribution to this fight is to provide mission critical communication gear that will ease the work of the coordinators while executing their duties. We are confident that the equipment will be put to very good use,"Nkya said.

"Communications simply cannot fail when lives are at stake. Mission critical communications networks and devices such as this ensure there is secure and reliable communications among teams even under the most challenging circumstances," Nkya added.

Several companies have so far made contributions to the ministry of health in the fight against COVID-19 following a campaign started by Vision Group Managing Director Robert Kabushenga.

Contributions have been in form of cash and other necessities.

Through his Twitter handle, Kabushenga calls upon more companies and individuals to join the fight against COVID-19.

The same call was recently made by President Yoweri Museveni as he asked factory owners to contribute generously towards the cause.
