KAMPALA - The Umbrella for Uganda Bouncers Association (UUBA) has lined up over 500 musclemen to offer voluntary services in beefing up government efforts to contain the spread of the Coronavirus in Kampala city and its suburbs.

The bouncers, according to the association administrator, Tonny Ssempijja, have expressed interest and willingness to work with security agencies in the distribution of food to the needy and in enforcing President Yoweri Museveni's directives on the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to Ssempijja, many of the bouncers had been working at night clubs, bars, hotels and beaches but they had been made jobless and redundant ever since the facilities were closed.

"We have mobilized our members and sensitized them about the coronavirus pandemic, they have accepted to offer voluntary services if called upon, under the supervision of government agencies," Ssempijja explained.

The bouncers with their head office at Calendar Hotel in Makindye had plans to work alongside Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) and other authorities to enforce government measures against the coronavirus in the markets and other places.

UUBA bouncers, according to Ssempijja, have helped to maintain peace and order at various government functions to minimize security moving with guns in large populations.

"Providing such voluntary service would not be new to us because we have offered similar services before," he explained.
