The National Resistance Movement (NRM) has told all its workers to stay at home as the party secretariat announced the suspension of all activities and closure of offices in a bid to fight coronavirus.

A statement sent by the party publicist, Rogers Mulindwa, said secretary general Kasule Lumumba directed "immediate closure of all party offices as the country continues to lay strategies of avoiding the wide spread of the deadly  coronacirus".

"The Secretary General has asked the Director Finance and Administration, Dr. Hassan Wasswa Galiwango, to effect the directive without any delays. The offices include the Party Headquarters along Kyadondo Road in Kampala City, the Electoral Commission Annex and all District stations," the statement said.

The party recently concluded the update of the NRM register countrywide.

"Lumumba has also called on the party leadership at all levels to suspend any meetings or party activities in their respective areas and stay home," Mulindwa said.

"She says the campaign to fight the deadly coronavirus begins with an individual and therefore reminds every citizen to abide with the health guidelines given by the line Ministry."

Uganda has so far registered nine case of COVID-19.

President Museveni last week issued several directives including closure of schools, blocking all in-coming and out-going travellers as well as banning prayers, social gatherings and unnecessary movements.

Several private companies and government entities have sent their employees to work from home in a bid to avoid congestion.
