Coronavirus: Rugunda asks Ugandans to remain vigilant

Rugunda also advised Ugandans not to engage in hoarding due to coronavirus, saying he would love to see the markets and industries working properly.

The Prime Minister, Dr Ruhakana Rugunda has advised Ugandans to take the guidelines that have been put in place seriously to prevent the spread of Coronavirus.
 
He made these remark on Wednesday at the office of the Prime Minister in Kampala during the Inter-Party Organisation for Dialogue (IPOD) meeting with the IPOD secretariat.
 
Rugunda also advised Ugandans not to engage in hoarding due to coronavirus, saying he would love to see the markets and industries working properly.
 
"A number of people have started hoarding goods they don't need. This is going to affect the economy of our country. We should focus on more production.
 
This is an opportunity for Ugandan entrepreneurs and manufacturers to produce more and meet the market demands," Rugunda said.
 
Coronavirus affects business
 
The Coronavirus pandemic ravaging the World has already had adverse effects on Uganda's hotel, tourism and aviation industries as well as other businesses.
 
Many hotels are counting losses following the cancellation of bookings and reduced business activities in the hospitality industry.

The virus that started in China last year in December, has hit the world hard. More than 200,000 cases have been confirmed since the outbreak started, and the death toll has exceeded 8000.
 
The majority of the cases are now outside China, and the virus has spread to more than 100 other countries.
 
Rugunda on POMA
 
Rugunda said the government will soon table in Parliament reviewed regulations on how the Police are supposed to use the Public Order Management Act (POMA).
 
He said the new regulations are still at the level of consideration by the National Security Committee and thereafter, they will be brought to parliament for adoption.
 
Rugunda made the revelation yesterday at a consultative meeting he held with political party leaders under the Inter-Party Organisation for Dialogue (IPOD) at the Office of the Prime Minister in Kampala.
