Uganda Cup: Proline face Kiboga, Villa meet Mbarara

Defending champions Proline will make a trip to Mbale to battle Kiboga Young at the new Mbale Municipal Stadium.

Nine-time Uganda Cup champions SC Villa have been drawn to face Mbarara City in the Stanbic Uganda Cup round of 16 stage.

Villa eliminated Buganda regional side Kajjansi United by 1-0  in the round of 32 while Mbarara City knocked out FHL 9-0 to progress.

Joint-record winners KCCA have been paired up with Big League side Dove from Bunyoro Kitara region, and the Kasasiro Boys will make a trip to Masindi for the duel.

Defending champions Proline will make a trip to Mbale to battle Kiboga Young at the new Mbale Municipal Stadium.

Premier League strugglers Tooro United will square off with Big League side Kitara in Fort Portal in the Rwenzori derby.

Kyetume and Maroons, both top-flight sides, will also battle each other at the Mighty Arena in Jinja.

Sam Ssimbwa's on-form URA will entertain fellow top-flight struggling Wakiso Giants at the Arena of Visions in Ndejje.

The only remaining Buganda regional side in the competition, Free Stars of Mukono, will lock horns with Big League side Kataka in Mbale.

UPDF and Light SS, both Big League teams, will renew their rivalry at Bombo Military Barrack Grounds.

The matches in this round will be played in the perios of March 10-15.

Director of competitions at FUFA, Hajjat Aisha Nalule, said any team that will exit at this round will walk away with sh3m.

Any team that will fail to honour this round will not get a coin.

"Any team that will exit at this round is entitled to shs3m. But to get this money you must honour their fixture," she said.

Ronnie Muganzi from Stanbic Bank, the competition sponsors, rallied fans to turn out in large numbers to watch the games.

The Uganda Cup has been played since 1971, with Express and KCCA winning it 10 times each, followed by Villa.

The winner of the competition represents Uganda in the CAF Confederation Cup, Africa's second tier club football competition.
