UPC implores its members to participate in special interest group

Uganda People's Congress (UPC) has called upon all the youth and Special Interest Group (SIG) leaders to ensure that they engage closely in the forthcoming National Youth Elections due in April this year.

Faizo Muzeyi, the head of Media and Communications said their office of National Youth Leader and other SIG leaders are currently mobilising and identifying Party Flag Bearers already.

"We call upon all Youth and other SIG District leaders to liaise or work hand in hand with the district chairpersons and regional vice-chairpersons for; guidance as they identify potential candidates to carry the party flag, easy mobilisation and coordination with branch leaders and members," Muzeyi said.

While addressing the media at their head offices in Kampala on Wednesday, Muzeyi said the party's strength is majorly rooted in the youth, women and workers and it is necessary to prioritise them.

This comes in after the Electoral Commission (EC) recently revised its key milestones for the 2021 general elections roadmap which saw nominations and elections of leaders for special needs groups and committees pushed to 8 to 24 April this year.

The categories of the activities going to take place in youth and SIG elections include nominations of village candidates, SIG committees candidates' campaigns, polling for village older persons committees, persons with disability committees and youth committees.

Muzeyi went ahead and encouraged their members and the general public to verify their particulars in the National Voters' Register so that they are not left out come 2021 general elections.

When asked whether the party had nominated any candidates to compete for the soon approaching Kampala Capital City Council speakers and division speakers positions, Muzeyi said they did not have any candidates to present.

Muzeyi stated that they had no candidates who showed interest under the party but encouraged the councilors and voters of the respective speakers to vote or individuals who are pro-people.

"As UPC, we may not be having a candidate for the KCCA speakership, but we call upon the councilors to do what it takes to vote for someone whom they think can help them formulate people policies. We want them to vote for someone whom they think can help them to make decisions that can reflect on the concerns of the people," Muzeyi said.
