Crane Lifters declare medals won in Uzbekistan

The national weightlifting team, the Crane Lifters, have declared the medals and trophy won at the 6th Islamic International Weightlifting Championship in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

The team returned home with three bronze medals won by the 55kg category lifter, Davis Nyiyoyita, and a trophy.

They handed the collection to the assistant general secretary of the National Council of Sports (NCS), David Katende Semakula, at Lugogo.

Uganda finished 5th out of the 47 countries that competed.

Salim Musoke, the President of Uganda Weightlifting Federation, urged government to inject more money into the team because they have a chance to qualify at least two athletes to the Japan Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

"We still have chance," he said.

"There are three more qualifying events and if the team is funded to participate we can qualify at least two athletes."

Katende said the National Council of Sports will endeavor to sponsor the team for more events.
