KAMPALA - SC Villa consolidated themselves in third spot and also moved to within 10 points of leaders Vipers SC after beating Onduparaka 1-0 at Namboole Stadium on Wednesday.

Ambrose Kirya scored the only goal of the game three minutes after restart to lift The Jogoos to 40 points, five adrift of second-placed and defending champions KCCA FC.

Meanwhile, Express (27 points) picked up a second successive win to climb to 10th place after a 2-1 victory over Tooro United, who are second from the bottom on 19 points.

Frank Ssenyondo scored in the first minute to give the Red Eagles a blistering start, before namesake Frank Kalanda improved the hosts' lead eight minutes to half time.

Michael Kawooya halved the deficit six minutes before time to offer respite for the visitors, but it was a little too late for any meaningful comeback as Tooro's indifferent run continued.

In Mukono, it was a seven-goal thriller as home side Kyetume found a stoppage-time winner to deny Mbarara City (29 points) a point on the road. Robert Ssentongo struck late on to help Kyetume (26 points) into 12th place when the tie appeared to be destined for a draw.

The goal drama started as early as the eighth minute, when the hosts took an early lead from the spot, before Brian Aheebwa snuffed out the lead a minute later.

Deo Isejja restored Kyetume's lead moments later, but Aheebwa was on target again to put Mbarara back on level terms six minutes before the break. Yet, there was more where that came from.

Solomon Okwalinga took the visitors in front for the first time in the game but Kyetume equalised soon after, before Ssentoongo hit the winner at the death.

Elsewhere, Proline put up a fight against relegation with a 3-1 win over BUL, after falling behind in the first minute through Joseph Ssemujju. Mustafa Mujuzi equalised from the spot in the 16th minute, before Rodgers Mato struck twice in the second half to gift bottom-placed Proline a first win in three games.

Proline were hoping to arrest their poor run of form, as were BUL. Both sides were coming off a run of two successive defeats.

 

So who had the bite?

 

BUL appeared to be the hungrier side, taking the lead in the first minute of the game through Joseph Ssemujju.

 

Proline chased a leveller . . .

 

It was to and fro traffic at Lugogo.

 

After Mustafa Mujjuzi's equaliser, Rodgers Mato seemed determined to improve the hosts' scoreline.

 

He was a contant threat to the away side . . .

. . . and his sustained industry paid off - with two goals.

 

Captain Noordin Bunjo and Mato celebrated their goals with teammates.

 

The home fans loved what was happening on Lugogo's artificial pitch.

 

The hosts still posed enough threat to improve their goals tally.

 

BUL goalkeeper Sanon Mulabi was often drawn into crucial aerial saves.

 

In the end, Proline picked up the three points.

They remain submerged at the bottom of the table on 18 points, six points under the safety zone.
