Kawanda SS to host UMEA games

The games that will take part from April 9 to 13 are only for Muslim founded secondary schools under their umbrella association UMEA.

The organisers of this year's UMEA games Kawanda Secondary School believe that they will stage a colourful and competitive event.

Speaking at the launch of this year's games in Kawanda, Wakiso district, the headmistress of the school, Hadjah Nassali stated that through sports, many participants have a chance to build their careers.

"We are not new in this field since this is the third time we are hosting these games. We have more interest in sports because we are seeing so many people reaping big from the skills they have acquired and that's why we want to ensure that we produce all-round citizens that can compete favourably. We feel we are ready to host these games,"Nassali said.

Students will compete in football (girls and boys), volleyball (girls and boys), handball (girls and boys), netball (girls), Table Tennis, and Badminton (Boys and Girls).

The organising committee chairman Hajji Twahil Kiteezaala believes the games are aimed at promoting unity.

"The games are intended to forge unity among Ugandans and inter-schools. These games will help to prepare UMEA school teams for national and international games. The games also meant to entertain the communities", he said.

A number of trophies, medals and certificates will be given to the excelling teams and individuals.

Mbogo Mixed Secondary School won the overall title in the last edition after clinching two gold medals and one bronze.
