The letter dated January 22 purports that the Government will extend offers to Busongora, including recognition, construction of a palace and sh2.5b.

KAMPALA - The gender ministry has disowned information purporting that the Government will soon officially recognize Busongora as a kingdom.

A letter from the gender ministry issued yesterday said: "We would like to draw the attention of the general public towards a letter circulation on social media purportedly issued by the Minister of Gender, Labour and Social Development, Hon. Frank K. Tumwebaze, regarding Busongora Kingdom."

The letter dated January 22 purports that the Government will extend various offers to Busongora, including recognition in September, construction of a palace and sh2.5b as startup fund.

"The Ministry wishes to clarify that the letter and its contents are a forgery as no such communication has been made by the Hon. Minister or the Ministry."

"The letter bears creeds of the criminality and, therefore, the matter has been handed over to the Uganda Police Force to bring the perpetrators to book," the ministry added.

Busongora is located in Kasese district
