INTERNET TAX

Uganda Revenue Authority wants the Government to make a policy shift and scrap the current system of taxing OTT and directly tax Internet.

This was revealed by the commissioner-general of the authority, Doris Akol, while presenting the budget framework paper for the authority to the parliamentary finance committee.

Akol said the authority has failed to meet the tax targets from OTT because of huge evasions.

She added that from the tax, which was introduced in the financial year 2018/2019, the Government had projected to collect sh84b from daily charges of sh200  on all mobile phone users, who have access to Facebook, Whatsapp and Twitter, but this has failed.
