Mixed results for Uganda in ITF/CAT Junior Tennis Championships

Isaka Ndossi defeated Allan Otto 6-3; 7-5 before Uganda levelled matters when Troy Zziwa beat Rashid Ramadhari 3-6, 6-2, 6-0 in the singles.

Uganda had mixed results as the ITF /CAT Eastern African Tennis Junior Championship raged on at Dar es Salaam's Gymkhana Club in Tanzania. 

They registered two victories and a loss in the team events over the weekend.  By press time on Saturday, the U-16 boys had qualified for the semifinals.

Akram Nsubuga fell to Rwanda's Kevin Prince Habiyambere 6-1 5-7 6-1 in the singles before Geoffrey Ocen levelled ties after defeating Junior Mfashingabo 6-3 6-4. Uganda then went on to win the series after the pair of Ocen/Trevor Kazibwe beat Mfashingabo/ Habiyambere 6-1 7-6(1) in the doubles to win 2-1.

In the other game, Uganda defeated Seychelles 2-1 in the girls U-14 category. Paulo Awino beat Elle Wirtz 4-6 7-5 6-2 in the singles while Flavia Namaganda lost to Alisha Sharma 3-6; 3-6 to level ties. 

However, Awino/ Namaganda defeated Sharma/Wirtz 4-6 6-4 12-10 in the doubles for Uganda to win the ties 2-1. But Uganda suffered a setback in the boys 14 where they lost 2-1 to hosts Tanzania.

Later, Uganda went down in the doubles after the pair of Zziwa/ Otto lost to Ndossi/ Ramadhari 4-6, 6-4, 7/10. Uganda was due to play Tanzania, Eritrea, Comoros and Rwanda in the other games late on Sunday.
