Long serving Silverbacks and City Oil forward Stephen Omony will be out of the game for a long time after doctors recommended surgery on his troublesome left knee.
The injury has kept him out of the game for over a month and as it turns out could even be longer than earlier anticipated.
This means the City Oilers and the Silverbacks forward will miss his services in the remaining four games of the 2019 NBL finals and the 2021 Afro Basket qualifiers, February 19-21 respectively. The Silverbacks will play in two windows of qualifiers including around the same time next year.
"I have seen a doctor today (yesterday) and he has recommended surgery because the knee is not stable and I require knee chondroplasty," Omony said when sounded out yesterday.
"It is the longest injury I have ever had in my career and it is a new experience for me and I don't when I will return to action," he added.
"I miss the game now because it is never easy to be incapacitated as your team mates play. But you have to continue supporting them and show you're part of the team and that is what I currently doing," Omony stated.
Omony has been the poster boy of Ugandan basketball for a long time and has featured for four Ugandan clubs in his 22-year basketball career on top of other professional stints with PSL Hawks of Seychelles and three other clubs outside the country.
He played for Blue Jackets, Falcons, Miracle Eagles and is now with the City Oilers with who he has won the National Basketball League once and the Zone V championship.
He attributed his long stay in the game to disciple and hard work as he signed for the Oilers in 2017.
