KAMPALA - The Inter-Religious Council of Uganda (IRCU) has asked the Uganda Communication Commission (UCC) to ban television shows that are laced with Pornographic content, which is not suitable for viewers below 18.

According to the chairperson of IRCU, who doubles as the Supreme Mufti of Uganda, Sheik Shaban Mubajje, such programs are not good for family viewing more so in the presence of children.

Citing Television programs such as soaps which may contain sexual scenes, Mubajje asked UCC to switch off stations that air such programs especially during seasons like these, when children are on holiday.

"UCC should control such televisions. Sex is natural and you do not have to teach one how sex is done. Birds engage in sex, but they are not taught how to do it," Mubajje noted.

Mubajje implored parents to take extra caution by guiding their children on which TV shows are appropriate for them.

Delivering IRCU's end of year message, the religious leaders through Mubajje urged Ugandans to observe peace as they celebrate the end of year festivities.

"We appeal to God's people, to observe peace. We should avoid any situations that may compromise our safety," Mubajje, the Chairperson IRCU said.

Joined by other religious leaders such as Pr. Daniel Matte, Mubajje urged Ugandans to party responsibly during the festivities.

Just like Mubajje, Pr. Matte, also appealed to Ugandans to keep calm during the festivities. He said; "Let's be responsible, let's keep peace in our families and communities".

On the forthcoming 2021 elections, the religious leaders asked Ugandans to take advantage of the ongoing voters' registration to be able to vote come 2021.

The religious leaders also called for peaceful and fair elections in 2021, for a violence-free Uganda.
