In the same assembly, Francis Amin from South Sudan was voted the first vice president while Ethiopia’s Esayas Jiro is the second vice president.

Wallace Karia has been named the Council for East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) president during the general assembly that was held on Wednesday at Silver Springs Hotel, Bugolobi.

Karia who also doubles as the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) president replaced Dr. Mutasim Gafar from Sudan. He will be at the helm of CECAFA for the next four years.

"I take this opportunity to humble myself before you and thank all of you for entrusting me with the top leadership of CECAFA as president for the next four years.  It is an honor that I have taken with humility, knowing very well that you have singled me out from many other able leaders to be your obedient servant," Gafar stated.

"My dear colleagues I would like to thank you for giving me the mandate to serve you without going through the challenges of electioneering. You have done this through your own consciousness, and the trust you have in me. I salute you all. You have shown your trust in me and I will reciprocate that trust by serving you diligently, honestly, transparently and observing the tenets of our constitution and with respect to all of you and to those contributing immensely to the game of football in the CECAFA region," he added.

Karia also thanked the out-going CECAFA president Gafar for holding the organisation together and serving with devotion and dedication for the past four years.

Karia's first task will be to revival CECAFA which seems to be on its death bed. This year FIFA started injecting money to organize under age competitions as one of the ways to revamp the game in the CECAFA region.

In the same assembly, Francis Amin from South Sudan was voted the first vice president while Ethiopia's Esayas Jiro is the second vice president.
