Uganda U17 girls team remained top of the CECAFA U-17 Girls tournament standings despite playing to a 1-1 draw with Tanzania on Sunday at the FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru.

The result saw Ayub Khalifah's side move to ten points, two above second-placed Tanzania.

This was the first time Uganda was dropping points in the competition since their last three games in the tournament.

Aisha Hamis gave Tanzania the lead in their 20th minute before Fauzia Najjemba levelled matters in the 34th minute. Najjemba took her tally to seven goals, two below team captain Juliet Nalukenge who has so far scored nine goals in the competition.

Uganda will now have to defeat a tricky Kenya side that is third on the log with seven points on Tuesday if they are to win the competition.

In other matches played on Sunday, Burundi went down 2-3 to Kenya while Eritrea defeated Djibouti 4-0.

The first-ever CECAFA U17 girls competition has been played in a round-robin format with hosts Uganda, Tanzania, Burundi, Kenya, Eritrea, and Djibouti fielding teams. South Sudan, Rwanda, and Ethiopia pulled out.

Uganda has higher chances of walking away with the trophy with the same team that won the COSAFAU-17 girls competition held in Mauritius.
