Uganda Airlines' revival - climax of Azuba's brief stint

Azuba, 65, who had served as a member of the board of Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) since 2014 will be remembered for reviving the defunct Uganda Airlines after 20 years.

KAMPALA - Monica Azuba Ntege, an engineer was dropped as Minister of Works and Transport bringing her three years as a minister to an abrupt end. She was appointed on June 6, 2016.
Azuba, 65, who had served as a member of the board of Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) since 2014 will be remembered for reviving the defunct Uganda Airlines after 20 years.
Uganda Airlines now boasts of four Bombardier planes, the first two came in April and the other two in October 2019.
The airline now flies to a number of destinations including Nairobi (Kenya), Bujumbura (Burundi), Dar es Salaam and Kilimanjaro (Tanzania), Juba (South Sudan), Mogadishu (Somalia), and Mombasa. It is expected to start flying to Zanzibar on December 16
Azuba was appointed a presidential adviser alongside other dropped ministers including Janat Mukwaya, Hajji Abdul Nadduli, Alex Onzima, and Irene Muloni.

"Why should we have pilots from outside the country when we can train not only our own but also those that can fly ‘birds' elsewhere," Azuba said while calling on Ugandans to join flying schools
"There is much work to be done on transport safety. We continue losing lives on water and road transport," Azuba said. She was addressing staff during the midterm sector review of the ministry. The function took place at Hotel Africana.
