UPDF hosts Christmas parties started in a selected region since 2016

The Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), Gen. David Muhoozi, has urged soldiers to always put their wives and family at the centre of their finances if they are to achieve development and eradicate household poverty.

Muhoozi made the remarks on Tuesday while officiating at an end-of-year children's party, organised by the Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF) at Masindi Field Artillery Barracks.

He also hailed the women of Masindi barracks for being innovative and enterprising.

"The women of Masindi barracks have the highest number of income-generating groups in the UPDF. This is good and we shall support the groups with more money. Ensure that you use it wisely, to develop yourselves," Muhoozi said.

He advised children to work hard so that they become responsible people in future.

The Field Artillery Commander, Maj. Gen. Sam Okiding, said children are a blessing from God and called on parents to play their role in raising them.

According to the deputy UPDF spokesperson, Lt. Col. Deo Akiiki, Christmas parties started in 2016, with one event in a selected region.

However, this year, Akiiki said the parties have been held in Mbarara and Masindi and another will take place in Jinja, on Friday.
