Today in History: Police raid Masindi Radio

The Police raided King's Broadcasting Services, a privately-owned radio station in Masindi district and recovered Uganda Broadcasting Corporation (UBC) transmission equipment that had gone missing three years earlier.

The station was owned by then Minister for the Presidency, Kabakumba Masiko.

Following the recovery of the transmitter, Kabakumba came under intense pressure from fellow Members of Parliament, some from her party, the National Resistance Movement (NRM), demanding that she resigns.

Consequently, Kabakumba resigned on December 14, 2011 to pave way for investigations into allegations against her. She, however, remained an MP for Bujenje County.

Until December 14 2011, Kabakumba served as minister for presidency, having replaced Beatrice Wabudeya who was dropped from the cabinet in mid-2011. In that capacity, she also served as minister for Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA).
