Telecom Company pins Mobile Money Murder suspects

Call data records from Airtel Uganda have revealed that on June 10, 2019, the mobile money murder suspects were at Zzana, the crime scene where two mobile money operators were murdered.

Francis Kabera, the Airtel electrician expert, who also doubles as the head of security and responsible for all data records in the company, has told court.

"According to our call data records, from 9:00 pm - 10:00 pm of June 10, mobile subscribers of the accused in the dock were at Zzana in Wakiso for over an hour," said Kabera.

For the prosecution, it is within the said place and time when Harriet Nalwadda and Moureen Nakabuubi were killed before robbing them sh6.8m.

The accused Pte Bob Anichan, Dennis Mangusho, Stanley Mulunda and Issa Ntale were since arrested and are battling with two counts of murder and aggravated robbery.

Backing his testimony before the General Court Martial chaired by Lt. Gen. Andrew Gutti, Kabera emphasized that the call data record showed that two of the suspects continuously received calls from a fellow suspect who was at Kubbiri, close to Pastor Kakande's church.

"Subscriber, Mulunda using telephone number 0751732356 at Kubbiri called Ntale on 0755218637 and Mangusho on 0703409265 who were then at the crime scene in Zzana.

Mulunda called Ntale instructing him to be alert and ready with the motorcycles that would transport Anichan and Mangusho after the robbery," Kabera said.

He added that at 7mins and 37sec past 10:00pm, Mangusho and Ntale, while at Zzana received calls from Mulunda (now calling from Mengo) telling them to find him there.

"Mulunda's telephone number was in the names of Bintah Ssengoba, Ntale's was in his real names and that used by Mangusho was in the names of Solomon Odur," he said.

Upon cross examination, the witness told court that he tracked the accused data records on a court order he received.

Prosecution asserts that the accused and others still at large on June 10, 2019 at Zzana cell Bunamwaya, Makindye Ssabagabo in Wakiso district, with malice aforethought caused the death of Nakabuubi and Nalwadda.

The accused also robbed Nalwadda of over sh6m and immediately or before the time of the armed robbery were in unlawful possession of a deadly weapon to wit two SMG rifles.

State prosecutors Maj. Raphael Mugisha and Cpt. Ambrose Baguma requested court to adjourn the case for the investigative officer, Detective Assistant Superintendent of Police, Gloria Lukundo to give her evidence.

The case was adjourned to December 2, 2019.
