Nov 23, 2019
Abraham Ainamani finished second, four strokes away while Saidi Mawa and Robert Oluba tied for third place.
Entebbe professional golfer Silver Opio carded 141 gross over 36 holes to win the 11th edition of the Afrisafe Chairman's Cup golf tournament at Entebbe Club on Friday.
Opio who has surrendered first place in more than two events after taking a day-one lead this year, this time was more consistent over the two rounds opening with one-under 70 before wrapping it up level-par 71 to win his first event of the year.
Opio has opened many tournaments well only to fizzle out in the subsequent rounds like in the JBG Open and Pepsi Independence tournaments this year.
Abraham Ainamani finished second, four strokes away while Saidi Mawa and Robert Oluba tied for third place.
Herman Mutaawe also started very well with a level-par 71 before a second-round eight-over 79 saw him finish joint fifth with Davis Kato, Ronald Rugumayo.
The amateur version of the event is on today with over 150 golfers fighting it out not only for the championship but also for a brand new KIA saloon car.
The Chairman's Cup is played by only four clubs, the putter inclusive.
