Undoubtedly one of Uganda’s best referees. But this high profile was tarnished in 1998

They were always in the news for contentious reasons. Below are some of Uganda's most controversial sports administrators.

Amanya Mushega

While serving as Education and Sports Minister, Amanya Mushega is best remembered in sports circles for describing the FUFA general assembly as a bunch of potato growers and fishmongers.

One of Uganda's most gifted players was a flop when he graduated into administration.

Right from seeking sponsorship from rivaling companies, being in pork joints when he was supposed to be in the office to staking FUFA properties to money lenders, Obua seemed to get it all wrong.

Charles Masembe

Undoubtedly one of Uganda's best referees. But this high profile was tarnished in 1998 when, shortly after making the FIFA World Cup list, he mishandled a Nations Cup match in Burkina Faso.

Masembe added eight minutes to the South Africa versus DR. Congo match His name was consequently scrapped off the World Cup list and retired shortly after that.

Ali Tomusange

The only Ugandan ever to officiate at the World Cup. The assistant referee had four games including the controversial quarter-final between hosts South Korea and the 2010 World Cup Champions Spain.  He is most remembered for disallowing Fernando Morientes' goal that by all measures appeared legitimate thereby eliminating Spain.

Milutin Sredojevic

The Serbian tactician had a successful stint with SC Villa winning four titles for the club.

This was however tainted by his fistfight with James Siaanga, coach of Tanzanian side Simba during a CECAFA Club Championship match at Namboole. Micho as Sredojevic was popularly known, attacked the veteran Kenyan tactician forcing Siaanga to fight back.
