SMACK remembers fallen comrades

Nov 10, 2019

They quickly got out of the bus in a frenzy, crying to help their fellow students, but for some, help had come a little too late; they were dead.

It was November 14, 1964 when government soldiers rammed into a school truck belonging to St. Mary's College Kisubi (SMACK) killing 12 students.

The students were coming from a football match at Muteesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku, where they had beaten St. Henry's College Kitovu 2-1. It was at a time when there was a lot of tension between Buganda kingdom and the central government and the soldiers mistook the students for Baganda rioters.

The tragedy occurred at the spot where Kisubi High stands today on Entebbe Road.
