On November 9, 1963, Dr. Milton Obote married Miria Kalule at Namirembe cathedral in a colorful ceremony that was graced by Kabaka Mutesa II (who was then President of Uganda then).
Their reception was held at Lugogo Indoor Stadium. They were joined together by Dr. Leslie Brown, the then archbishop. Together they have 4 children, among who is Jimmy Akena, MP Lira Municipality.
