KAMPALA - It was all about fun with some members of the public almost running mad on seeing nsenene (grasshoppers) loaded on vehicle rooftops, bonnets, boots, and windows.
Some traffic personnel had to keep close eyes as dangerously loaded vehicles with nsenene were entering Katwe football ground in Makindye Division the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) gazetted place for selling grasshoppers.
Some market vendors have abandoned other food items they normally deal in and zeroed on nsenene which are liked by many.
The usual package of Nsenene which is equivalent to half an empty bag of a 50Kg of sugar was on Saturday morning sold at Sh200,000 but sometimes shoots to over Sh500,000 during scarcity while during the boom it drops to Sh50,000 and below.
Moses Mukasa a specialized dealer in nsenene at Katwe market said earning big out nsenene, it requires one to buy them in plenty when still cheap and preserve them for reselling after one week or more.
He said Ugandans abroad are aware of this November main season for nsenene and have placed orders although some freights have started becoming more strict on the movement of insects of any form.
