MUBS takes home beach soccer title

MUBS clinched the ninth edition of the University Beach Soccer Championship trophy that was played over the weekend at Lido Beach, Entebbe.
 
Saidi Munir scored a brace before Bernard Wamusi added the other as MUBS defeated Buganda Royal Institute 3-2  to lift their third championship. MUBS won in 2015 and 2014.
 
Simon Peter Kijjo and Ambrose Kigozi scored the consolation goals for Buganda Royal Institute who settled for silver medals.
 
This is one of the elite beach soccer competitions that give the national team the opportunity to pick the best talents for the national duty.
 
The University Beach Soccer championship started in 2011. It has a membership of 26 universities across the country.
 
This championship which was organised in collaboration with the Association of Uganda University Sports (AUUS) and FUFA saw MUBS walk away with gold medals and a trophy among other prizes.
 
In the third playoff match, KIU defeated St Lawrence 3-2 on penalties after 4-4 draw. Buganda’s Ambrose Kigozi and Eric Habinshvii were voted the MVP and best goalkeeper respectively.
 
Muteesa University won the fair-play award accolade.
