Uganda chances of winning their first East and Central All Africa Challenge Trophy (ECAACT) tournament hit a dead end in the second round when they failed to cut down Tanzania’s lead at Entebbe Club.

Despite Martha Babirye and Irene Nakalembe’s one and three-stroke improvement, it was nowhere near displacing leaders Tanzania who instead extended their lead to 11 strokes.

The Tanzanian’s once again banked on the experience and knowledge of the Entebbe course by Iddi Madina who has been the best of the tournament thus far with 149 gross over the two days of action.

Madina returned two-over 73 in the second round to set his country on course of winning their third regional trophy.

“The second round very well and I played two-over and we are leading by 11 strokes but we are not satisfied with that, we want to do better, we are going to and take the trophy back home.

“For me, the putting went well and I didn’t miss any fairway, so I was attacking with my second shot,” Madina stated.

Despite the difference in strokes, Uganda team captain Irene Nakalembe is still hoping for a change in fortunes.

“We are at home and enjoying ourselves, we are chasing 11 strokes but anything in golf is possible. We are keeping our heads high, the team behind me is the best in the country so keep your eyes on us please don’t give up on us because we trust our swings,” Nakalembe promised.
