Opio shoots to the top in JBG Open

Opio who slept in second position after the opening round behind Herman ‘Deco’ Mutebi improved her first round score by a stroke to shoot to the top.

Silver Opio could be on his way to winning this year's JBG Open after taking over the lead after the second round of the annual tournament at Entebbe Club.

Opio who slept in second position after the opening round behind Herman ‘Deco' Mutebi improved her first round score by a stroke to shoot to the top.

The Entebbe golfer shot three-under 68 to take over from Mutebi who could not produce the same form as in the first round and instead slipping to sixth place after carding a second round eight-over 79.

Abraham Ainemani also slipped from third to fourth as Richard Baguma moved from seventh to third place following his second round level-71 score.

Saidi Mawa also slipped a position down as Deo Akope who was tenth moved up the leaderboard in seventh in after his level-par 71.

There was a cut after the second round which saw 16 pros miss on the sh20m cash that is up for grabs. Notbale among them is the 2016 and 2017 winner Fred Wanzala and Happy Robert, Herman Mutaawe and Brian Toolit who all had a share of the cash last year.

Players of handicap 0-5 will contest in the gross category event on Friday and Saturday while the subsidiary category will also feature on Saturday.
