Kadaga meets Nigerian actor-turned-MP Desmond Elliott

Speaker Rebecca Kadaga says she is "glad to see my friend Desmond Elliott whom many know from his previous career as an actor".

KAMPALA - Speaker Rebecca Kadaga has interacted with a delegation from Nigeria that is attending the ongoing Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference in Kampala.
She was also delighted to meet Nigerian movie star, director and current legislator Desmond Elliott, who is leading the delegation.
Elliott, an actor-turned-politician, is currently representing Surulere Constituency, which is located in Lagos State.
The two politicians had not met in nearly a decade, the Speaker revealed.
Kadaga said Uganda and Nigeria have a lot in common.
On her interaction with the Nigerian team, the Ugandan Speaker of Parliament said she was "equally glad to see my friend Desmond Elliot whom many know from his previous career as an actor".
"It has been quite some time, over eight years, since we [last] met," she said.
"Nigeria and Uganda share a lot in common with regards to our culture and socio-economic way of life. I wish the delegation fruitful deliberations."
Elliott, who is 45, has starred in over 200 films and a number of television shows and soap operas.
He won best supporting actor in a drama at the 2nd Africa Magic Viewers' Choice Awards and was nominated for best supporting actor at the 10th Africa Movie Academy Awards.
He was elected as an MP of Surulere Constituency in the April 11, 2015 Nigerian general elections.
He is leading the Nigerian team here Kampala at a conference the Pearl of Africa is hosting for a second time, having last done so in 1967, five years after gaining independence.
