UCU failed to defend their Nkumba Open tournament as Sport-S showed their tournament prowess to take the match and the title 3-1.

UCU coach Nasson Bwesigye played down the loss as a dress rehearsal for the much bigger national championships in Lira.

"The tournament, in general, has given us a good picture of how we stand. Mark Okurut was suspended, while Elias is injured, so our reception suffered," Bwesigye said.

The Doves team has struggled this year with big injuries. He has up to five players injured but now he has to find a solution as they need to defend the national championship title they picked up last year.

That said Sport-S has also taken a lot of positives from there comprehensive victory at the Nkumba Open.

"We are using this tournament to gage ourselves. This week we shall work on some of the errors this week our reception and attack were not good," Sport-S captain Dickens Otim said.

KCB-Nkumba showed that they had the fighting spirit as they got a scrappy 3-2 win against the UCU Lady Doves in Nkumba.

They were off to a flyer but shockingly enough the Lady Doves came back fighting to take the second and third set while Nkumba used their experience in big matches to finish off their opponents in the decider. Their go-to attacker Habiba Namala came through in big way as a big match preparedness helped them snake through to take the match.
