Uganda's newly-refurbished High Commission Chancery in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania officially opened on Saturday.

The building, located on Plot No. 25, Msasani Road, an upscale suburb of Dar es Salaam city, houses Uganda's diplomatic mission in Tanzania.

It was inaugurated by the minister of foreign affairs, Sam Kutesa, who represented President Yoweri Museveni.

Ministers Esther Mbayo (presidency), Muruli Mukasa (public service) and Persis Namuganza (state minister for lands), were among several dignitaries who attended the ceremony.

Kutesa said the foreign affairs ministry has a plan to refurbish all decrepit chanceries or build new ones to revive the image of the country.

"It is very good to have a car and flag but better to have a home that reflects the image of your country," he said during the inauguration ceremony.

The event featured a colourful performance of traditional dances by Ndere Troupe, a popular Ugandan arts troupe.

The chancery was expanded and upgraded with new security systems, a reinforced wall fence, and a decent compound design, among other features.
