'Mysterious double fire' at Namanyanja home

Two fires break out at the home of the NRM national treasurer, hours apart, leaving several house property destroyed.

KAMPALA - The National Resistance Movement (NRM) has confirmed that a "mysterious double fire" broke out at the home of the party's national treasurer, Rose Namayanja Nsereko.

She resides in Masooli-Kasangati in Wakiso district. The two fires broke out within hours of the other.

No one was injured, Rogers Mulindwa, the NRM senior manager in charge of communication, information and public relations, said in a statement.

Namayanja, her husband and all the other occupants of the house "escaped with no injuries".

The initial fire broke out Thursday evening and the second Friday morning.

"The first incident happened on Thursday evening when the annex housing the gym got burnt to ashes. This building is located about 30 metres from the main house.

"To yet another shock of the family, another fire started from the living room of the main house around 8:00am on Friday morning, leaving several house property destroyed," added Mulindwa.

Meanwhile, it is understood the actual cause of the fire has yet to be established, but investigations are under way.

Mulindwa said: " A joint team of experts led by Uganda Police have already embarked on the investigations and the home remains a scene of crime for now. 

"We glorify the living God for His merciful hands that shielded this family."
