People in the surrounding areas communities of Zzana, Lufuka, Bunnamwaya, Ndejje and Nyanama among others lost property after water invaded homes

Traffic along the Kampala-Entebbe Road came to a standstill for over two hours following the Friday afternoon downpour that resulted into the overflow of water on to the main carriageway at Zzana.

Being the main road to Entebbe International Airport, there was a lot of frustration among travellers who were held up in the traffic jam with no opportunity to manoeuvre and take alternative routes.

Pedestrians, cyclists and motorists could not cross the spot located shortly after the Zzana roundabout as you head towards Entebbe.

The traffic jam stretched from the roundabout to as far as Kajjansi while that from Kampala the side stretched as far as the Kibuye roundabout.

People in the surrounding areas communities of Zzana, Lufuka, Bunnamwaya, Ndejje and Nyanama among others in the Makindye-Ssabagabo Municipality in Wakiso district, lost property after water invaded homes.

Eng. Samuel Mwesigwa, the Wakiso district engineer, said the problem which has progressively developed over time results from the narrow drainage channel that needs to be replaced with box culverts.

He said there are several other spots along the road like one at Bata-Bata that need redesigning of the draining channels to accommodate the increasing water volumes.
