“As you can see, Babirye is not happy because Nakato is sick, the entire home is quiet, they are not playful,” she adds.

KAMPALA - During the seventh month of pregnancy, Hajarah Mukyaala felt so much fatigue and heavy weigh that she was compelled to do an ultrasound scan to find out what was causing the condition.

“Results at the scanning center revealed that I was carrying fraternal twins,” she says.

When Mukyaala discovered that she was carrying twins, she got scared because of their low income on top of paying school fees for their other four children and other family necessities.

She had stopped working because she could hardly do anything on her own, so she was entirely depending on her husband Ivan Kavuma.

“I loved my job because it sustained my family, but I had to rest and prepare for the birth of the twins” Mukyaala narrates.

Birth of twins

“On January 10, 2019, I gave birth to Viola Babirye Kavuma who weighed 3.4kg and Vivian Nakato Kavuma who weighed 3.1kg. It was a normal delivery, so I was discharged immediately,” a jubilant Mukyala recalls.

She says giving birth to twins attracts respect and strong relationship, especially to mothers.

“When you give birth to twins, you acquire the discipline you never had before, because you learn how to treat other people knowing that they will help you in raising the twins,’’ Mukyaala adds.

Raising twins

Mukyaala notes that when one of the twins falls ill, the other will concurrently be affected.

“As you can see, Babirye is not happy because Nakato is sick, the entire home is quiet, they are not playful,” she adds.

Mukyaala says there’s nothing that excites her like seeing Nakato and Babirye happy, the worry of having twins and losing her job ended since Kavuma is very supportive in raising them.

She regrets the time she spent worrying about how she was going to handle both her babies and the work. The twins are now seven months old.
