Giants Buddu boosted their chances of advancing to the knock out stage of the Airtel Masaza Cup following their 2-1 victory over Bulemeezi at Masaka Recreation Grounds to move second in the Butikkiro Group with 12 points, two behind leaders Mawokota.

Bulemeezi who suffered their first defeat of the season dropped to third position level on points with Buddu while Kooki and Mawogola are fourth and fifth with six and five points respectively.

The final group stage fixtures will see Bulemezi take on Mawokota at Kasana Grounds in Luweero while Mawogola host Buddu in Ssembabule on Sunday.

Elsewhere, Gomba's chances of making it to the quarterfinals came to an end following their 2-0 defeat to Ssese in a match played at Lutooboka playgrounds in Kalangala.

The record champions, who have played in eight finals, have won four matches and lost four leaving them in fourth sport in the Masengere Group with nine points while Buvuma is bottom of the log with no point.

Defending champions Ssingo are top of the group with 14 points followed by Ssese and Bugerere with 13 points each although Ssese has better goal difference.

The battle for quarterfinal slots now is between Ssingo, Ssese and Bugerere with just one game left in the group stages.

Ssingo will play Bugerere at Mityana Ssaza Grounds in a mouth-watering encounter that will decide their fate while Ssese will play Buvuma away at Magyo in Buvuma Islands.
