Two perish in Masaka Road accident

In the space of a one month, eight fatal accidents have been registered on the stretch between Nakirebe and Katonga, claiming 10 lives

Two people were killed on Sunday evening when a truck knocked a motorcycle at Mpambire, Mpigi district on the Kampala-Masaka Road.

The accident happened at around 9:45 pm on according to Philip Mukasa, the Katonga Regional Police publicist.

Mukasa said the dead were both on the motorcycle which was heading towards Masaka and stopped at Mpambire swamp where a separate accident had occurred.

While they are at the scene of the accident, an Isuzu truck registration number UAR 280X knocked them from behind killing the rider Richard Kasule, 43, a resident of Bubuule, Kammengo while James Bukenya was rushed to Double Cure medical centre in Mpigi town council for treatment where he passed away moments later.

Both bodies were taken to Gombe Hospital in Butambala district for a post mortem.

The driver of the vehicle attempted to drive off but was intercepted by Traffic Police at Buwama. The vehicle was impounded and is currently at Mpigi Central Police Station.

According to Mukasa, Police managed to arrest Nteza Ssekabira the driver who will be charged with causing the death to two people and reckless driving.

In the space of a one month, eight fatal accidents have been registered on the Kampala-Masaka Road in the stretch between Nakirebe and Katonga.

10 lives have been lost in these accidents while 20 people are still nursing injuries they sustained from the accidents.

Mukasa revealed that the Police has intensified operations to help curb the number of accidents on the road.
