Kadaga condemns domestic violence

She challenged all those entering marriages to avoid domestic violence for peace in homes so as to raise good children

The Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga has asked married couples to always be peaceful for marriages to thrive and avoid domestic violence.

Kadaga while speaking at the traditional introduction ceremony for Faridah Nakasumba and Ivan Basimbize in Kakumiro district said that couples should strive for peaceful co-existence for continuity of culture.

"We have given you our girl in good condition and peacefully and we want you to maintain her and even improve her," said Kadaga.

She assured the in-laws that Nakasumba is a well-behaved girl who is developmental. Kadaga asked the in-laws to add value to Nakasumba in the course of the marriage.

Kadaga said that she did not attend the introduction function the Speaker only but as a descendant of the Banyoro from the lineage of King Wamala of Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom.

Faridah Nakasumba is a daughter to Hajji Musa Hassan and Robinah Nabanja, the commissioner of Parliament.

Kadaga challenged all those entering marriages to avoid domestic violence for peace in homes so as to raise good children and foster peace in the country.

She thanked Nabanja for raising up well her daughter Nakasumba and assured the in-laws that they will not regret by marrying from this family.

"This girl is well-behaved and you will not regret marrying from our family," said Kadaga.

Kadaga prayed for blessings for the newly married couple as they start their journey in marriage.

Meanwhile the government chief whip Ruth Nankabirwa said it is not easy for politicians to raise children because they are always travelling on state duties.

"Our children as politicians are prone to problems and challenges. It is not easy to raise children as politicians because we are always on the move on state duties so when you nurture children and they get married, it is God's plan," said Nankabirwa.

She said that every parent would love their children after getting an education get married because of its respect for the family.

Rosemary Sseninde the state minister for primary education asked parents to always nurture their children with good morals to make good wives and husbands in future.

"If you don't nurture your children with good morals you can't have such a big function take place at your home," said Sseninde.

She appealed to parents to educate their children more especially the girl child because when you educate a girl you will have educated the nation.
