Joel Kakira beat a strong field of over 80 golfers to claim the Serena Members Social Mug golf tournament played at the Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort on Friday.
 
Playing off handicap 19, Kakira finished the one-day tournament, one stroke better than Marvin Kagoro who returned 37 points over the water hazard laden course.
 
With the Uganda Open about a month away at the same venue golfers got the perfect warm-up on the course where Patrick Mugisha (35pts) and Andrew Baguma (34pts) produced the best scores in Group A.
 
Kagoro won the men’s Group A with 37 points with Duncan Karugaba managing 34. Sureh Patel and Jonathan Bakwega produced the best scores in Group C while Martha Babirye and Eva Magala were the top players in the ladies category. The tournament was sponsored Castle Lite, Absa and Steel and Tube Industries.
 
In Kampala on Saturday, it was another lady Gloria Mbaguta who beat a field of over 90 players to the top mug in the Stanbic Monthly Mug action played at the Uganda Golf Club.
 
Hassan Kiyemba, Charles Odere, and Peter Macharia produced the better golf in their respective categories, A-C while Katy Kabenge and Olivia Musisi topped the ladies groups A and B.
