LDU RECRUITMENT

DOKOLO - Joining the Local Defense Unit (LDU) is a dream worth fulfilling for some people who have failed to find jobs and to those that want to serve their country. However, challenges have become obstacles for some individuals especially for those that fail to match some of the credentials needed to join LDU.

For one to qualify for LDU recruitment should not have missing teeth in their mouth shouldn't have scars and tattoos on their bodies among other qualifications.

In a bid to pass these Stumbling blocks, people in Acholi sub-region especially Dokolo district came up with a solution of fixing chewing gum in their mouth to cover the gaps of their missing teeth.

This trick was done by most candidates in anticipation of qualification to serve their communities.

The spokesperson Uganda People's Defense Force (UPDF) 5th division, Lt Ahmad Hassan Kato said most of the candidates that turned up for the exercise had chewing gums in their mouths.

"Hundreds of the candidates tried to trick us by having chewing gums in their mouth but it could not work out for them," Kato said.

One of the candidates, Francis Okullo who was disqualified due to a missing tooth said he was unfortunate because of a mere missing tooth. However, he confessed that the recruitment team was not biased.

"The level of transparency exhibited by the recruitment team is perfect that is why I am not complaining about my disqualification," Okullo said

However, he advised that people with missing teeth should also be given a chance to serve saying that missing a mere tooth cannot affect one's performance in service delivery.

Dr. Captain Ivan Ndikuno the head of the screening team said the majority of the candidates who turned up lacked basic qualifications.

Kato revealed that the turn-up of ladies for the exercise was poor compared to the men. Out of 803 candidates that were recruited in Acholi sub-region, only 84 were female.
