Armed robbers steal over sh600, 000 from bar operators

Kisoro Police have commenced the hunt for armed robbers who raided Mbongera trading centre in Nyakabande sub-county, in Kisoro district and stole sh620,000 from bar operators, silver Maniriho and Phionah Mutuyimana.

According to Kigezi regional Police Spokesperson Elly Maate, the incident happened on July 23, at around 11 pm.

"Two persons were allegedly robbed of cash by two unidentified thugs of whom one was armed with smg rifle (AK47). Victims are, Silver Maniriho (26), a bar operator, who was robbed of sh450, 000 and Mutuyimana Phionah aged (17) barmaid, who was robbed of sh170, 000," he stated.

Maate said the report was made to police at around 10:58 pm, which visited the scene led by OC CID and recovered two cartridges. "The thug is said to have fired four bullets. Inquiries have commenced on file Kisoro CRB 556/2019 refers."

In the related development, New Vision has learnt about the arrest of five people suspected to have been connected to the murder of Kisoro based lawyer Isaac Sendegeya, who was gunned down on Sunday morning.

"The Five are; Sikola Nyiramajambere, Issah Mvano and Asuman Tito Hahumakwiha all from Bunagana parish Muramba s/c who allegedly had a civil suit in court and the deceased was the defence lawyer for the defendant, one Migyera in whose favour the judgment was read," said Maate.

According to him, the judgment is said to have annoyed plaintiffs to the extent that they uttered threatening words against the lawyer.

"Others are; Hadija Niyijena and Mutesi Eliminate both from Bunagana township who were in a relationship with the main suspect on the run," he said.

Maate added that inquiries continue and whoever will be found to have had a hand must be brought to book and answer charges accordingly.
