Children urged to plant trees

The chief adviser to Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi, Apollo Makubuya, has urged parents and teachers to teach children on the need to plant trees. According to Makubuya, this will protect the environment and will be handy in overcoming challenges, such as drought and pollution.

Makubuya made the remarks while addressing old students of St Mark's College Namagoma, on the third alumni dinner that took place last week at the school premises in Namagoma Wakiso district. Makubuya was the guest of honour during the function.

He also stressed the importance of planting indigenous tree species, saying some of the trees are medicinal, while others provide items such as backcloth.

The former deputy Katikkiro, who also planted a tree in the school compound, advised students to identify their goals and purpose in life, saying that this will help them to direct their energies in the right direction.

He thanked the directors of the school, Daniel Ddamulira and his wife Alice for building the spirit of togetherness among the old students, through organising seminars and inspiring talks, which are pertinent in their careers.

He also advised the alumni to expand the activities of their association to include SACCOS and investment clubs so that they develop their financial base together.
