KAMPALA - Jailed city car dealer Muhammad Ssebuwufu and six others have petitioned the Court of Appeal, seeking to overturn a 40-year jail term, which was handed to them on Monday.

In a notice filed at the Court of Appeal criminal registry  Tuesday morning, Ssebuwufu and his associates say that they are dissatisfied with their conviction and sentence.

They filed their appeal through Caleb Alaka, Evans Ochieng and Robert Irumba at the second largest court on the land.

However, they are yet to file a memorandum stressing their grounds of appeal.

The lawyers said they have chosen to petition the Court of Appeal because they believe the judge was emotional and failed to properly analyse the evidence on record.

On Monday, Ssebuwufu together with Paul Tasingika, Shaban Odutu alias Golola, Philip Mirambe, Kayiza Godfrey, Yoweri Kitayimbwa and Damaseni Ssentongo were each sentenced to 40, 30 and 20 years in jail for murder, kidnap and aggravated robbery respectively.

However, the trial judge Flavia Anglin Ssenoga said they will serve the sentences concurrently, meaning they will stay in jail for no more than 40 years.
