Baguma, Babirye win big at half year Mug of Mugs golf

Jul 01, 2019

For Babirye, this was the third time she was appearing on the podium in three weeks

Andrew Baguma and Martha Babirye carded 69 and 67 nett respectively to emerge as the overall winners of the Stanbic Bank half-year Mug of Mugs tournament at Kitante on Saturday.

The two will consequently fly business class to destinations of their choice after grabbing an air ticket each from co-sponsors Qatar Airways.

Playing off handicap 10, Baguma was a double winner on the day, taking home not only the mug but the longest drive as well. He beat Group B winner Charles Odere on count-back.

For Babirye, this was the third time she was appearing on the podium in three weeks a feat she attributed to hard work.

"You know when I came here, I wasn't playing well so I have had to work hard to keep on improving and I'm still doing just that," Babirye fresh from winning the Conservation Golf Challenge and the Gadies and Lentlemen tournament said.

Jaime Byaruhanga, Charles Odere and Micheal Muhangi were the top players in the men's groups A-C while Eva Magala and Victoria Ngabire came top in the ladies groups A and B.

Stanbic marketing manager Lois Kwikiriza, Qatar Airways country manager Haileab Netsereab Mehreteab and Lato Milk-the other co-sponsors' Chirag Kotecha presided over the awards ceremony.
