Promising junior player Shamika Fadilah has vowed to train even harder ahead of the upcoming season in a bid to maintain a positive record on the local badminton scene.
13-year-old Fadilah managed to get back into the limelight after defeating her rival Tracy Naluwooza to the U-15 title at the National Schools Badminton Tournament.
She beat Naluwooza 2-0 (22-20, 21-10) to walk away with the U-15 crown on Sunday.
The Rubaga Girls SS lead player lost to her age mate Naluwooza from Mbogo High at the last event, the Taibah School tournament, but the recent victory seems to have restored a balance in between the two players.
"It was not an easy encounter because she plays a very good game and to beat her, you need to be calm," she noted.
However, Naluwooza also went on to console herself with the U-19 girls' accolade after defeating teammate Ragab Natasha 2-0 (15-12, 12-13) in the other final.
As if this did not seem convincing enough, the Mbogo High captain steered her side to the girl's team victory after the Kawempe side thumped Hana International 3-1 in the final.
The three-day event also saw Kibuli SS reclaim the title after thrashing Kakungulu Memorial 3-2 at the final of the boy's category at Lugogo.
The two teams Mbogo and Kibuli qualified to represent Uganda at the All Africa Schools Championship due December in Lusaka, Zambia.
