Golfers’ skills will be put to the test as they will be playing from unfamiliar territory in the stable ford format of play event

The 8th edition of the Gadies and Lentlement golf tournament returns on Saturday with over 170 golfers in action at the Uganda Golf Club.

Katy Kabenge and Billy Patrick in the ladies and men's categories will be the golfers to beat, having won last year's event at the same venue.

The ladies section organized tournament will see golfers not only swap roles on the course with the men playing off the ladies tee and vice versa but also the dress code is expected to change with men playing in skirts and the brave one putting on wigs, in one of the exciting tournaments on the Uganda Ladies Golf Union (ULGU) calendar.

Commercial Bank of Africa represented by CEO Anthony Ndegwa, Job Connect by Anita Katusiime, Coca Cola by marketing manager John Ernest Ssekisonge, Ekspreso (Nicole Katto) and Master Power Systems were unveiled as sponsors of the one-day event on Wednesday.

Addressing a press conference during the launch at Kitante, lady captain Anne Abeja said golfers' skills will be put to the test as they will be playing from unfamiliar territory in the stable ford format of play event.

"It is a fun-filled and exciting tournament that offers a good opportunity to us golfers to test our skills while enjoying ourselves because the game is played on unfamiliar territory with switched roles," Abeja said.

"You have to think differently, you have to use different clubs, so the men have to club down while the ladies have to use more powerful clubs because they are playing a different course.

"We expect about a big field and have slots for guests too. We have trophies and prizes for 28 golfers," Abeja said before she unveiled the sponsors.

Anita Katusiime of Job Connect said they were committed to developing talent, skill and career and they were ready to offer golfers a chance to develop their skills as they enjoy themselves while Coca Cola's Sales and marketing manager John Ernest Ssekisonge said they were in it because Coke creates connections and bridges amongst the people.

Ndegwa who is going to participate in the tournament said it was an innovative golf format which offers a chance to play well but that requires a lot of adjustments because it offers a big challenge but fun as well.
